Community policy

We have zero tolerance for hate, overt or coded. That includes racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, sexism and ableism, and attacks on anyone for who they are. LGBT+ people, identities, relationships and symbols are always welcome, and are never treated as “controversial” or “mature”. That includes reclaimed words used about yourself.

This can't be saved at all:

• Hate speech: slurs, or attacks on people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or sex, including coded or deliberately misspelled versions.
• Harassment: targeted abuse of a real person, including other members, developers and streamers, and posting someone's personal information.
• Threats: threatening, or encouraging, real-world violence.
• Extremism: praising or promoting terrorist or hate groups, their symbols or propaganda.
• Sexual content involving minors, in any form, real or drawn.
• In photos: nudity or sexual imagery, real gore, hate symbols or caricatures, and extremist or inflammatory material.

Some things are fine for your own diary but not for everyone else. A review or note like this is saved, but only you can see it. It stays off your public profile, your public diary and the game's Community tab:

• Explicit sexual description.
• Insults about a real, named person, such as a developer or streamer, that stop short of harassment.
• Graphic description of real-world violence or self-harm.
• Spam: advertising, links, or text that isn't about the game.

You'll see a note on the review saying why, and you can ask a moderator to look again.

• Swearing. (Anyone who'd rather not see it can turn on “Hide swear words” in their settings.) The one exception is your name and username: your username is shown next to everything you share, so neither can include swear words.
• Harsh, sarcastic or angry criticism of games, studios and publishers, their decisions and their work.
• Talking about violence, horror, war, crime, sexuality and other dark or adult themes in the games themselves.
• Box art and screenshots from mature games.
• Short, silly, or one-word reviews. It's your diary.

People play at their own pace, so this one isn't optional. If your review gives away the ending, a twist, a major character's death or a late-game surprise, tick Contains spoilers. Spoiler reviews are folded away until the reader chooses to open them.

If you forget, the review check will usually spot it and add the flag for you. If a moderator adds a spoiler flag after a report, it stays on. Talking about the premise, setting, mechanics, difficulty or how the game made you feel isn't a spoiler.

• Don't pretend to be someone else, whether another member, a developer or a company.
• Write your own reviews. If you quote someone, say who.
• Review games you've actually played.
• Don't use the site to spam, advertise, or run scams.

• Checks before saving. What you write and the photos you upload are checked automatically by an AI model when you save them. If it finds something from the “never allowed” list, it tells you why and doesn't save it. If the check can't run right then, nothing is saved; try again in a moment.
• Reports. Anything public (a review, a profile, a list of picks) has a Report link. Reports are private: the person never sees who sent one.
• Human moderators read every report and appeal. They can hide a review from public pages, add a spoiler flag, or take a profile down, which stops it being shared until they restore it.
• Appeals. Automated checks and people both get things wrong. If a review of yours is hidden or flagged and you think that's a mistake, choose Ask a moderator on it, and a person will look again.

Serious or repeated breaks of this policy can lead to your account being closed, as the terms explain.
